Kayleigh Messer

Is disappointed it's all over tomorrow! Can't we do it all again next week?

School, sixth form college and then straight into university.

GCSEs, A-Levels (Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry). MEng in Motorsport Engineering from Oxford Brookes University

Work History:

All sorts – I’ve worked in shops, in a call centre and as Avon lady while studying! Engineering jobs I’ve had include work experience at another F1 team and BMW MINI.

Lotus F1 Team.

Current Job:

Vehicle Performance Engineer

Me and my work

I work in the Vehicle Performance department at Lotus F1 Team and I perform laptime simulations before every race.

I use computer software to simulate the car racing a lap. I change different parts on the car in the software, to find out which bit of suspension or bodywork gives the quickest laptime. I give this information to the race engineers who decide on the best setup to use.

My Typical Day

Typical days involve our simulation software!

Most of my time involves using the laptime simulation software, and writing reports to show the results. I attend meetings to keep up to date with colleagues, but the main way to communicate is by email, so I spend some time every day dealing with my inbox!

What I'd do with the money

I’d buy each school in the High Performance Zone a book about engineering careers so that if any student still has questions after the event, they can find the answers.

I write on a blog with other engineers called so I also would use some of the money to attend a blogging conference to improve my skills. Hopefully we can be of help to people interested in engineering as a career on the blog and promote engineering to a wider audience!
