• Question: What inspired you to work in the sector of Engineering you do today?

      For me it was more of me gradually realising what it was that I wanted to do. After my A-Levels I had a huge dilemma, not knowing which career path to do – work on boats in the open sea as a marine biologist, or create software for all sorts of things – two totally different subjects! So I decided to do a two-year HND instead of jumping into a 3 or 4 year degree in case I changed my mind.

      But my involvement with computers, and how to get them to do what I want them to do, has to be because of my grandfather getting a Sinclair Spectrum 48K when I was around 11, and letting me use it at his house (only if I was on my best behaviour!) I think trying to get this small computer to do anything useful was what started me off!

      I loved watching F1 as I was growing up and wanted to work in it, but I had no idea that there was such a thing as a motorsport engineer until I was looking through university brochures mid way through my a-levels.

      Well I met a really interesting guy when I was about 14 and he turned out to be an engineer. He inspired me a bit. I enjoyed the buildings part of engineering becasue it brought me into contact with other engineers like Mechanical, Electrical, traffic, fire and geotechnics. And I also got to work with architects who I generally like.
